NATURAL BRIDGE CAVERNS IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
During our trip to Austin this past weekend, we had the opportunity to experience the Natural Bridge Caverns in San Antonio. These caverns are Texas’ premier natural attraction, and they truly live up to that reputation. The adventure began as we joined a Discovery Tour, where state-of-the-art lighting illuminated massive, otherworldly formations formed by single drops of water over eons of time. The sheer size and beauty of the caverns left us in awe.
After our adventures underground, we enjoyed some of the “above ground” entertainment. We relaxed at the Shops of Discovery Village and indulged ourselves at Big Daddy’s Sweets, Treats and Brew, an old-fashioned parlor and general store. Then we set our competitive sides loose with a couple of games of Connect Four then a race to complete the maze. Unfortunately, in our excitement, we forgot to stamp our tickets with start and finish times, so there is no proof of who won. Oh, well. Lastly, as every great attraction does, we exited through the gift shop, where we found adorable gifts, jewelry, and souvenirs at the Discovery Village Trading Post.
On the drive back to Austin, we stopped in the fun town of Gruene where we enjoyed a sunset dinner over looking the Guadalupe River at Gruene River Grill. We were lucky enough to pop into a few of the cute shops before they closed for the evening.
