MICHIGAN & CANADA
Sometimes the best laid plans go awry. Reedi and I had a trip planned to Cabo. We had booked a week in a resort in Cabo. We had day trips to old town Cabo and to the marina scheduled. We were going to go on an excursion on a glass-bottomed boat. Then with less than 24 hours to go before we boarded our flight to paradise, we received a call from our daughter that would change all of that.
Our daughter, who was away enjoying her senior year at a resident high school in North Louisiana, called to inform us that her roommate had tested positive for Covid, that she was running a fever, and that we needed to come pick her up immediately. So, the next 9 hours of our lives were spent taking the 4.5-hour drive to north Louisiana, picking her up, and taking the 4.5 hour drive back home with a sleepy, slightly feverish, high school senior. We also quickly came to the conclusion that we would cancel our trip to Cabo.
Within two days her Covid test came back negative and her fever cleared up and we dropped her back off at school. On the 4.5 hour drive home we needed to decide what to do with our week off from work. Reedi looked over the Southwest Airlines app and discovered a cheap flight to Michigan. We had never been to Michigan, and guess what’s next to Michigan? Canada! And we had never been to Canada. So, right then and there we booked our flight and two days later we were in Michigan heading north to the Canadian border.
